Is it ok to use AI to write blog content?

But the big question is: Is it okay to use AI to help create blog content, and will search engines, particularly Google, penalise you for it?


AI can be a valuable tool

Using AI to assist in content creation can be incredibly useful. AI tools can help you brainstorm ideas, outline your blog, undertake research, or even generate initial drafts that you can refine and personalise. This can save you valuable time allowing more strategic activity to be done instead. AI can also help with keyword placements and ensuring your blog is optimised for SEO.


Quality and originality are key

However, while AI can help, it’s crucial that the final content remains high-quality, relevant, and original. Google’s algorithms are designed to reward content that provides value to users. If your AI-generated content is well-written, informative, and tailored to your audience’s needs, it can perform just as well as human-written content.

Will Google penalise AI-generated content?

As of now, Google doesn’t explicitly penalise content just because it’s AI-generated. However, they do emphasise the importance of content that meets their quality standards. According to Google’s own guidelines, the focus is on the content itself rather than how it’s produced. If your AI-generated content is informative, engaging, and useful to the reader, it stands a good chance of ranking well.

But a word of caution—if Google detects content that’s low-quality, spammy, or overly automated without human oversight, it could impact your site’s rankings. The key is to use AI as a tool, but not completely rely on it. Always review and edit AI-generated content to ensure it meets your brand’s voice and quality standards.
